There’s something pretty special about watching so

There’s something pretty special about watching someone build their dream. 🤎

I recently popped into The Hare & Tortoise Books in Korumburra to drop off some Soul Stories calendars and gift cards, and I left feeling so proud of Hilary and everything she’s created.

What began as an online bookstore in 2020, and then grew into a little retail space in 2021, (yes survived the crazy COVID days?!)has now grown again ~ into a bigger space, more books, more book clubs, more community events and so many more possibilities.

And Hilary has taken the leap to leave her full-time job and make the bookstore her full-time dream.

I LOVEEEE that!!!!! 🥰

Because small business owners get it…
There is always something to do. 😂 You wear all the hats, have a million ideas, work ridiculous hours and wonder what the hell you’re doing sometimes… but you keep going because you genuinely love what you’re building.

So I’m really grateful that Soul Stories gets to be a tiny part of Hilary’s journey, and I’m excited to watch The Hare & Tortoise continue to grow.

Hilary, you should be incredibly proud of yourself. ❤️

Here’s to backing yourself, doing the work, and slowly but surely watching the dream become real. 🐇🐢✨

Two artists.
Two very different ways of seeing the human form.

There’s something about the human figure that keeps drawing us both back.
The body can say so much without saying a word.

A curve.
A gesture.
A movement.
The way someone holds themselves.

For both @carmeljenkin and myself, the figure becomes a way of exploring something beyond the physical — emotion, energy, identity, vulnerability, and the things we carry within us.

Our work is very different.

For me, the figure often comes through movement, emotion and the feeling or soul held within the body.

For Carmel, it comes through line, curve, texture and her ongoing exploration of the female form and her own relationship with the body.

And yet, when our work sits alongside each other, there’s a connection.
Different styles. Different approaches. Different visual languages. Yet somehow, they complement each other.

Perhaps it’s because underneath those differences, we’re both curious about the same thing — what the human form can reveal when we look beyond the surface.

And for the first time, we’re bringing our work together under The In-Between Gallery at the @inner_west_art_fair

16, 17 & 18 October

Come and see the work in person, meet us both, feel the energy and perhaps discover the connection for yourself.
