Hundreds of Stars

Whenever she laughed
hundreds of stars would
fall from her hair,
& all l wanted to do
was to bend down
& pick them all up
– knowing that her soul
wasn’t going to walk the earth
much longer.

But she didn’t believe in
keeping her magic in jars.
So all l could do was watch them
disappear with the breeze,
not knowing that she was secretly
blowing them into other people’s hearts…
