Sports Masseur/Mentor
Where to even begin telling my story about this incredible ‘one of a kind’ man, Leigh Baker…
Not only has he touched my life in kindness, in his profession, in friendship, in gratitude and in love – but have l learnt that many other people have the same, same but different stories to tell about how he has helped them in a similar manner…
About 20 odd years ago, I had pretty much lost all hope, knowing that l had to quit my classical ballet training because of the ongoing injuries which resulted in daily pain and grief. I was far too young to be physically holding my body together, not being able to walk without extreme suffering. But there l was, just a teenager at the time, in great despair…
Kellie, a dancer friend of mine, stumbled across Leigh whilst he was working at Olympic Park Sports Medicine as a renowned Sports Masseur. She urged me to go and see him after having positive results from a session with him. So without much hope (after seeing a countless number of healing professionals) l made an appointment with Leigh and being financially concerned, asked if l could just book in for a 30 minute session and prepared my heart to hear the same ‘sorry we can’t help you…’
It’s hard to recall details way back then – but what he proposed is probably unheard of these days. Leigh was willing to work on my injuries until he could figure out what the cause was and how he could help me fix it for a very low fee. I was so lucky to meet such a compassionate soul who was touched by my passion and pain for dance.
Over several years, he worked on my injuries consistently – two steps forward, one step back and basically helped me put my body back together again which enabled me to start up dance classes ‘just for fun’. I never thought l would be so lucky as to build my strength and dance technique back to a professional level – and then maintain it injury free!?
During this time, a very special friendship grew between us, exchanging many stories of our past, present and future dreams. I could tell him anything and everything and he always seemed to have the right answers when situations seemed so unclear.
Not only is Leigh responsible for my dance career excelling over seas – but for helping many others. He is loved by all that wanders into his world and continues to be that ‘inspiring ray of light’ for each and every one of us.
My Soul Stories mantra is to ‘help, heal and inspire’ and without a doubt Leigh Baker is a big part of my heart understanding the true value of these words…
